Ljubljana - Castle

This is a castle on my side of Ljubljana (Fuzinski grad). I biked right past it for many years. One day I decided to just stop and explore. My favorite was a small abandoned electricity plant just across the street. After digging these photos from my archives Im already planing to go back:-)

New York City - Sleep No More

“Those of you holding a 6 card, your time has come. Quickly finish your cocktails or abandon them as I escort you to the corner of the room. You will be separated from your loved ones; this is an experience to be had alone. Tell them you can rendezvous back here at the second floor lounge once you’ve finished.”

Sleep No More takes place at the fictional McKittrick Hotel, a reference to the film Vertigo. According to the show's website, the hotel was completed in 1939 and “intended to be New York City's finest and most decadent luxury hotel.” The site goes on to explain that “six weeks before opening, and two days after the outbreak of World War II, the legendary hotel was condemned and left locked, permanently sealed from the public” until it was restored and reinvented by Punchdrunk and Emursive.

I saw the show last April when I was in NYC with my boyfriend. It was one of the most amazing evenings. It has everything I love - an old abandoned hotel, interesting scenery, masks, mystery and so much more.

I have stumbled on information about the show on a blog that I follow and after reading more about the McKittrich Hotel I was hooked and bought tickets immediately. Luxury hotel fully furnished and abandoned (closed) for more than 70 years? I just had to see it.

Read more and visit the abandoned McKittrich Hotel here. And Scout's post about this show is here.

The mask from that night has a special place in my living room now:-)

USA - Route 66

Living in the USA had a huge influence on my life. Often I still miss the open spaces,  the road that just goes on and on, disappearing in the horizon, huge cities, the feeling of possibilities. One of my favorite parts of our road trip was the drive along historic Route 66 from Chicago to St. Louis.

Yep, that's all that's left from the old Rt 66.

Also, expect some home decor/renovations/design ideas in the future. Life in USA had a big impact on this part of my life too. I cant wait to finish my apartment (in the fall hopefully) and see how it turns out.

Slovenia - Posocje and Primorska

Another set of photos from our beautiful country. Remains of Soca front. Once I would like to explore them further.

Then we continued our way South through Soca valley. This is the most interesting town on this way - Kanal ob Soci. If I remember right, every year there is jumping competition from this bridge.

In Ajdovscina we visited old Roman ruins called Castra.

And we found an abandoned building (of course).

Another stop on our road trip was Vipava.

My wish since I first visited has been to go inside the mansion on the last three photos. I should try to make it happen soon.

USA - Prairie

I wanted to see the tallgrass prairie since I've read all the stories about its past. Three years ago during our USA road trip we drove through its most eastern part. We barely touched its borders. The landscape was totally different from anything I've seen.

And just for the record, USA is not the only country I visited:-) Apart from Slovenia its just the country where I spent a lot of time (more then a year altogether over the past 3 years).
